    Take Me Back Tuesday

Brought to you by none other than Music Memoirs.

    1. Name your three favourite songs by your favourite artist. (this means by the same artist)
It feels weird not to say The Moody Blues, but I have to do it: Elvis Costello.

Couldn't Call it Unexpected no. 4
    Blue Chair
    13 Steps Lead Down

    2. Name your three favourite albums by the same artist.
    At the moment, they are:

    Brutal Youth
    King of America
    This Year's Model

    3. Name three duet partners you'd like to see your favourite artist perform with.
Well, anyone has to be better than Anne Sofie von Otter...

    Justin Hayward
David Bowie (I'm not even sure why)
Oh I don't know... Mick Jones

EC has a very tricky voice. Wouldn't go well with many people.

    Top Five on Friday

Another good one from Music Memoirs.

Top 5 songs of summer or songs that remind you of summer

The Door Into Summer - The Monkees (not even because of the title, but because I remember hearing it in the summer, along with many other Monkees tunes)

Long Summer Days - The Moody Blues (The MB album Sur La Mer also reminds me of summer, but we're not doing albums here. But oddly, so do their Coke commercials.)

    Cruel Summer - Bananarama

The Other Side of Summer - Elvis Costello (That and "Veronica" were my fave songs last summer when I was on vacation)

Safety Dance - Men Without Hats (Don't ask)

If I wasn't so lazy/busy I would have done the Random 10 this week. Nick Lowe's "Half a Boy and Half a Man" would have definitely been on it--it's been in my head ever since I was watching Conan O'Brien last week and, to my shock and elation, the show's band, The Max Weinberg 7, were playing it as an instrumental!

    Very very late Random 10

    From Music Memoirs...
I guess it makes more sense to do this than an extremely late Top Five. So here's my list of 10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back.

Elvis Costello - Alison (not the most unique of choices but it came on at a restaurant, making the 2nd time I've heard it there...only, my friend couldn't have cared less)
The Clash - This is Radio Clash
    David Bowie - Space Oddity
The Monkees - I'll Spend My Life with You (It was my head, all day, for no reason...I haven't even heard it in ages)
Billy Joel - Piano Man (also on at a restaurant)
Kaiser Chiefs - I Predict a Riot (a popular song on my list? What's this world coming to? Well it was on TV and it stuck in my head like glue)
    Nick Lowe - American Squirm
Elvis Costello - Sleep of the Just
Mike Pinder - The Power of Love (my friend, indifferent to Elvis, decided to film some night shots with her camera using this song as background)
The Moody Blues - Meanwhile (another song on mix CD that previous song came from)

There's my list, eclectic as usual.

The only picture that really has anything to do with my weekend would be:

    Strange but True?

Taking a break from my Star Wars marathon... to ramble about some news I heard about the girl in this picture,

    Doremi Hayward.

Apparently she got married on May 14. I was beginning to think she never would--not because she's 33 now, but because she's always seemed...as seen in this photo...sort of attached to her father. (Who is Justin Hayward of course.) Or maybe he's overprotective. I don't know what else would explain certain photos I've come across.

Anyway...just felt like rambling on the unexpected news. I guess even more people searching for "Justin Hayward" will now be led to this blog. Odd that I get so many searches for him when I only mention him about once a week, while I mention Elvis Costello every day.

    .....
Oh, I haven't mentioned Johnny Depp for a month but... his birthday was Thursday, June 9.

So, Happy Birthday to the Depp.

    Moody Blues Pictures & Names

That last meme reminded me. For whoever keeps coming to my blog looking for this, here you go!

Left to right: Graeme Edge, Ray Thomas, John Lodge, Justin Hayward
    (Mike Pinder not pictured)

Not good enough? Here's a close-up of Justin.

    And John (aka Lodgey)

Oh and someone else wanted the Keys of the Kingdom artwork. (Hope you bought that album, whoever you are)

Now everyone can get their Moody fix right here.

    Top Five on Friday

It's two days late... does that surprise anyone? Didn't think so. (Thanks to Music Memoirs for the meme)

    Top 5 Male Vocalists
(For each vocalist list one song or album that you feel is their best)

Bet you can guess 2 or 3 already.

    1. Elvis Costello - London's Brilliant Parade (Brutal Youth)
    2. Justin Hayward - Who Knows (Moving Mountains)
    3. George Harrison - This is Love (Cloud 9)
    4. John Lodge - Forever Now (Strange Times)... I felt guilty leaving him off after I used Justin
    5. Paul McCartney - Junk (McCartney)... I felt guilty leaving him off after I used George

The world is treating me bad... Misery

Maybe I didn't really need to quote the Beatles there, but... I can't believe I'm sick AGAIN. I've come down with something every month since February (except March, thank goodness).

So I haven't been on the computer all week as a result. The last time I was on here, I had to leave abruptly because my friend came over to drag me to a movie I didn't particularly want to see...

Today I overcame my laziness and sickness and got on here, but I was instantly attacked by a huge amount of Elvis Costello news, mainly concert reviews, which just depressed me since I'm not going to see him until July and that's just going to be a pathetic outdoor, General Admission, venue where he'll be sharing the stage with Emmylou Harris.

    And pictures like this,

only make matters worse because he's sitting on the edge of the stage-- something he did at just about every show on this tour except when I was there. I don't know why I'm so depressed that I didn't get to witness this. But there's no way he'll do it at the July show...

Why this concert depression?? Maybe I need more cold medicine...though if I have to chew one more chalky cherry tablet I'm going to scream. (Or, more likely, just sulk over Elvis)

    *~TO DO LIST~*

  • Watch "The Young Ones", 80's BBC show, and wish they'd made more than 12 episodes.

  • Drool over wonderful King of America cover.
  • Kidnap Elvis AND Justin Lodgey AND Paul to preserve sanity and ward off post-concert depression.
  • Pretty much try to stay in a constant state of confusion (like Johnny Depp) just because of the expression it leaves on my face.
  • Protest War (feeling a little ambitious, are we?)
